How to choose a criminal lawyer in Prayagraj or Uttar Pradesh

Use objective checks, ask direct questions and confirm an advocate’s current credentials before engaging them.

An eight-point verification checklist

  1. Ask for the advocate’s full name and Bar Council enrolment number; verify the details with the issuing authority.
  2. Confirm experience with your specific procedural stage and relevant offence category.
  3. Ask which court or bench is appropriate and who will appear at each hearing.
  4. Discuss likely steps, documents, risks and alternatives without expecting a guaranteed result.
  5. Ask for a written scope of work, fee basis, expenses, payment terms and receipt.
  6. Confirm how updates will be shared and who is responsible for urgent dates.
  7. Ask how your documents and personal data will be stored and shared.
  8. Independently check credentials and references; a directory listing alone is not proof of quality.

Questions for the first call

  • Have you handled matters at this stage and in this court?
  • What documents do you need before advising?
  • What are the next procedural steps, and what could change the plan?
  • What is included in your fee, and what may cost extra?
  • Who will handle the case day to day?

Fees and location

Advocate fees vary by court, urgency, complexity, hearings, seniority and scope. Request a written estimate and compare the work included. No individual lawyer profiles are published on this site.

Allahabad High Court and Lucknow Bench

Ask whether the advocate appears at the relevant seat or bench and how local filing and hearing arrangements will be managed. Confirm jurisdiction and the correct forum from the case record.
